Rashid al-Gannouchi, leader of the Ennahda Movement and former Speaker of the Parliament in Tunisia, was detained after security forces raided his home. Ghannouchi was arrested by the Tunisian Court of First Instance this morning after 48 hours of detention. Tunisian lawyer Habib Ben Sidhom, who is a member of the Ennahda Movement, said in a statement on his social media account that Ghannouchi and 11 Ennahda members were on trial for "conspiracy against state security". After Ghannouchi was detained, all of Ennahda's offices in the country were closed. In a statement made by the Ennahda Movement, Ghannouchi's detention was described as a "dangerous development" and called for an end to the "cursing of the opposition political activists" and for Ghannouchi's immediate release. On the other hand, in the news made by Tunisian private radio Mosaiqu FM, it was reported that Ghannouchi was detained for questioning after a video recording of a conversation he had with the leaders of the National Liberation Front was leaked.
